BHADARWAH, May 5: Despite Narendra Modi Government’s directives which decided to expedite the transfer of cash under the Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) scheme while laying emphasis on ‘individual asset creation’ under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in Doda district alleged that district administration has failed to implement the same in entire district.
Representative of half a dozen panchayats under the leadership of Sarpanch Kursari, Sajid Mir while addressing a press conference alleged that instead of going an extra mile to reach out to the poor villagers during lockdown restrictions, district administration is making a mockery of the PM’s directives by creating hindrances and by giving lame excuses to start the much needed MGNREGA works in all Panchayats of Doda district.
“To help the poor labourers during lockdown, PM asked all the States and UTs to restart MGNREGA works in Panchayats, but we are unable to locate that when the work has been started in all other districts of Jammu and Kashmir, why district administration here has maintained a criminal silence and despite repeated requests officials remain unmoved”, said Sajid Mir.
Prominent panchayat representatives who were present during the press conference were Ayaz Khan Sarpanch Udrana B, Ikhtiar Khan Naib Sarpanch Hanga, Tariq Ahmed Naib Sarpanch Udrana, Shahid Gania Panchayat Sarna, Nazir Ahmed Mir Panchayat Kursari, Kuldeep Singh, Firdous Butt Panchayat Thanhala, Aaqib Batt Panchayat Katyara and others.
When asked about the inordinate delay in restoration of MGNREGA works in District Doda, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Doda Prem Singh Chib said, “This is a very serious issue and I will check from my BDOs that why SOS and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) are not being restarted during lockdown. Agreed, there is some delay in new MGNREGA works because inspite of our work plan for 2020-2021 stands approved, but due to the transfer of Xen, we could not update the schedule of rates on the app”, he added.
“New Xen has joined recently and hopefully we will able to activate Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) on SECURE App in next two days. Immediately after that, the MGNREGA work in all the panchayats will be started on war footings”, he asserted.
