Sir,
This has reference to news item “Centre approves Rs 170.5 Cr for Devika”. It is welcome step taken by Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State, that the most Sacred river of Duggar Land “The Devika” could be included in National River Conservation Plan (NRCP). It is pertinent to mention that “Devika” has been described as elder sister of holy ‘Ganga’ river and it has taken ‘Avtar’ in the land of Lord Shiva at Sudhmahadev for the welfare of mankind and purity of soul.
From its origin at Sudhmahadev till its meeting with river Tawi, this sacred rivulet covers a distance of nearly six kilometers and all along the way there are very important temples and shrines of Lord Shiva like Haridwar and Benisangam. There has been large scale encroachments on both the banks of Devika and polluted outlets are thrown open to this sacred rivulet. It is, therefore requested to the Govt of India to start Devika Development Plan from Sudhmahadev onwards and in my opinion the pure Devika water may kindly be drained from Benisang to mix it with existing water of Devika at Udhampur to make sufficient flow of the original holy water of Devika at Udhampur.
It is also requested that similar Devika Development Plan be sanctioned for Purmandal and Utter-Vehni Tirthas of great importance. All of us know that Purmandal was developed like ‘Kashi’ by the Dogra Kings but due to passage of time no attention was paid to this region by the previous Governments. Now, the present Govt of State and the PMO’s office is taking keen interest to promote religious pilgrimage in this part of J&K State. So it is requested that Devika Development Plan be started from Sudhmahadev and similar plan be sanctioned for Purmandal and Utter-Vehni areas.
Yours etc….
