Devika Project

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Work on pollution abatement of River Devika to begin by April’ DE Jan 28, 2019.
Better late than never. This adage is quite apt while describing the fate of River Devika project.
Lot of time has already been wasted in sanctioning, and framing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the sacred river. The people have patiently waited for this project to take off. The authorities should now ensure that the project takes off smoothly on time, and is completed within a stipulated timeframe. Any sort of delay will not only dishearten the hearts of people of this area, but it will also increase the expenditure on the project which may hamper its execution. The Government must accord it the status of ‘project of national importance’, so that no hurdles are created by vested interests, and the project reaches its end smoothly.
