Devotees in large number throng Durga Nag shrine

SRINAGAR, Oct 12: A large number of devotees drawn from different parts of the J&K UT thronged the Durga Nag shrine here, today to participate in the celebrations of Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami.
A grand religious function was organsied in the temple premises by Durga Nag Trust. A Maha Yagya was also solminised on the occasion by the Trust. The Maha Yagya started with Kalash Puja on Thursday evening and culminated with Puranahuti yesterday afternoon.
The devotees were also served Prashad after Puranahuti. The bhajan kirtan was also held in the temple premises by the devotees. Besides, the Kanjak Pujan was also performed in the temple premises by the devotees.
The devotees in large number visited the temple on the occasion of Durga Ashtami and Maha Navmi to pay obeisance to Goddess.
Highlighting the significance of the Durga Nag shrine, senior trustee Prof B L Zutshi said the shrine is the abode of Goddess Durga and it is one of the ancient Hindu religious places of Kashmir where Sadhkas used to visit from times immemorial for Sadhna to seek solace. The shrine dates back to Purnic period, he added.
He said Adi Guru Shankaracharya had also visited this place during his life time and Mathura Devi a great saint had also spent a large part of her life time at this holy shrine and trust has constructed a hall in her memory.
General secretary of the Trust, Dr R L Dhar and senior Trustees Kundan Kashmiri, M K Jalali, Kuldeep Raina and Bihari Kak also participated in the function. They said various steps are underway to develop this ancient shrine under the guidance of president of the Trust, Vijay Bakaya.
Later the Trustees held a meeting in the evening to chalk out the development plan of the shrine especially the Ganesh Temple situated nearby the shrine.
