JAMMU, June 14: The auspicious day of (Dhamdehn Asharh Sankrati) was celebrated with full religious fervour and gaiety today with devotees keeping fast offering special prayers to the God to atone their sins.
On the occasion philanthropists, social and religious organisations also organized Chabeels at different parts of the City and its outskirts to offer Sharbat (sweet drink) to people to beat the scorching Summer heat.
The chabeels were installed at busy chowks and markets including Jewel Chowk, Shalamar Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Gumat, Satwari and Digiana Chowks, Janipur, Sarwal, Rehari, Residency Road, Kanak Mandi, Raghunath Bazaar and other places by the devotees.
The Hindu and Sikh volunteers were seen at various places offering the water to people traveling in buses, minibuses and other modes of transport before the passers by throughout the day as they believe that by doing so their sins will be atoned.
Reports coming from other parts of Jammu including R S Pura, Bishnah, Samba, Vijaypur, Kathua, Hirnagar, Udhampur, Reasi, Katra, Rajouri, Akhnoor and other small towns and villages said volunteers installed Chabeels to offer sharbat to passers by.
