JAMMU, Jan 1: Thousands of people thronged temples in the winter capital today on the occasion of New Year and prayed for peace and prosperity in the State.
Devotees in large numbers visited Bawe Wali Mata and other temples and offered prayers. The temples were specially decorated for the occasion. Sai Baba temples at Talab Tillo and Lower Roop Nagar and other temples in various localities and colonies were also jam-packed with devotees.

A police official said that no untoward incident took place during New Year celebrations across the Jammu City last night as adequate security arrangements were in place to deal with any unpleasant situation. However, the Traffic Police Jammu conducted test of boozers through breath analyzer and challaned those, who were found drunk while driving on the New Year eve.
Katra, the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, also witnessed heavy rush of pilgrims, a police official said, adding around 38,000 pilgrims paid obeisance at Shri Mata Devi Shrine in the past 36 hours. Adequate security arrangements were made in the holy town of Katra and along the route to bhawan in view of the unpredicted rush of pilgrims.
