JAMMU, May 9: Secretary, Union Ministry of Tourism, Parvez Dewan today inspected the work on Food Craft Institute (FCI) building at Jagti.
Secretary, Tourism & Culture Department, J&K, Zaffar Ahmed Bhat and Director Tourism, Jammu, Soujanya Sharma accompanied Mr Dewan.
The project has been funded by the Government of India under the programme “Hunar-se-Rozgar”. The institute will be imparting training to youths in various trades like front office, bakery cookery, F&B and other allied trades related with the tourism industry.
There was long pending demand of the hotel industry to have trained youth for providing services to the visiting tourists in the State. Seeing the vast potential in the tourism industry particularly in Katra and Patnitop, Government of India sanctioned this project to cater the requirement of hotel industry.
The institute will go a long way in providing employment to the youth and will solve the unemployment problem to a large extent. As present, the FCI is operating from the Yatri Niwas, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu and the students are being imparted training in various trades like cookery, housekeeping, F&B etc.
Director Tourism Jammu explained that the work of the building is under progress and assured that the construction will be completed in the stipulated time. Dewan assured that the necessary balance funds will be released as and when required so that there is no delay in completion of this prestigious institution.
Advisor, ITDC, Rakesh Wazir, Padamshree S P Verma, Former Member PSC Jammu, R L Bharti and other officers of the Tourism Department were present on the occasion.
