Jammu, May 16: A Dogri short stories collection “Antkaran Di Qaid” by the senior Dogri Radio drama artist-cum-writer Santosh Sangra was released at a simple but impressive function at K.L Saigal Hall, today.
Published by Hybro Publications, the released book incorporates 16 short stories on various social issues focusing women.
Parvez Dewan, IAS (Rtd) was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Dr Veena Gupta, former HoD Dogri, University of Jammu, presided over the function. Santosh Sangra who is considered doyen of Dogri drama has acted in six hundred radio plays since 1976. Profusely awarded for her performances, she has also scripted plays for TV and published about 100 pieces of literature.
A brief critical review on the book was presented by noted poet and critic Susheel Begana who discussed the content and style of the short stories of the released book wherein the writer has touched some of the innermost sensibilities of women giving it eloquence.
In his address, Mr Dewan said that art and literature give special status to women in society and talented women like Sangra have made significant contribution to the enrichment of Dogri literature and art.
In her presidential address, Dr Veena Gupta said that women writers have penned some of the beautiful short stories in Dogri. The literary work of Sangra is known for her keen observation and social consciousness vis-à-vis women sensibilities.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Chhatrapal, President Dogri Sanstha congratulated the writer and said that Dogri Sanstha has been encouraging creative writers by providing them its platform. “Antaraatma Di Qaid” is a valuable addition to the shelf of Dogri creative writing, he added.
The literary function conducted by Dr. Chanchal Bhasin, Literary Secretary of Dogri Sanstha, was attended by leading writers, poets and members of the civil Society.
