JAMMU, June 13: To ensure that genuine and quality medicines/medical products are made available to the patients, special drives were carried out by the sleuths of Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) in Jammu Province and operations of 29 drug sale outlets were disallowed for violation of rules.
The main objective of the drives conducted under the supervision of concerned Assistant Drugs Controller and under the overall supervision of Deputy Drugs Controller Jammu Mohd Iqbal Pala, was to ensure availability of quality medicines and to curb the unethical sale of medicinal formulations prone to cause intoxication.
During the drive, operations of 29 drug sale establishments, 11 in Jammu (retail/wholesale), one each in Udhampur, Reasi and Poonch, two each in Rajouri and Ramban, three each in Doda and Kathua and five in Kishtwar were disallowed on spot as the owners of these shops were found indulging in violating the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940 and rules there-under. The licenses were subsequently suspended and the defaulters were warned to desist from any malpractices.
Further, statutory drug samples of nearly 400 formulations of various categories, in particular lesser known and fast moving brands, were lifted randomly for determination of strength, purity and other quality parameters. These samples were referred to Drug Testing Laboratories for framing of legal opinion with respect to quality parameters.
Also, awareness/sensitization programs were initiated involving the youth and other stake-holders in different areas in coordination with the officers of District Administration with the objective to propagate awareness regarding the menace of substance abuse and its dangerous ill-effects.
Recently, Licensing Authorities (Wholesale & Retail) of Jammu Province had cancelled more than 46 non-operative/non-existing Drugs Sale Licenses to avoid their misuse by nefarious elements.
Lotika Khajuria, State Drugs Controller J&K has once again impressed Pharma fraternity to strictly adhere to the conditions of licenses and desist from any unlawful activity.
