DFCO organizes awareness rally on drug abuse

JAMMU, June 28: A mass awareness rally to propagate the holistic message regarding the substance abuse and its devastating effects on the social fabric was organized at Bishnah by the Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO).
The rally organized in coordination with Police authorities, chemists’ fraternity, NGOs, civil society and Beopar Mandal, to highlight the ill effects of substance abuse and to spread the message about the extreme cultural, economic, social harm of illicit drug use, started from JD Public School, Bypass Bishnah and culminated back at the same place.
Senior officers of Police and Drug Control and members of chemists’ fraternity, Beopar Mandal and Bar Counsel Bishnah were present during the flagging off ceremony which was done jointly by Deputy Drug Control Mohd Iqbal Pala and SHO Bishnah Inspector Abid Bukhari.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohd Iqbal Pala emphasized that the objective of this rally is to generate awareness among the masses to fight this menace for a drug free society which ensures the prosperity, growth and progress of the society and the nation. He reiterated that the Department has adopted zero tolerance policy against this menace and has taken proactive measure against the use of certain intoxicating formulations and also about the significance of treating individuals who have fallen in this trap.
Abid Bukhari impressed upon the participants and the media fraternity to act as brand ambassadors to propagate the awareness amongst the ignorant masses, youth and students. He also briefed about the steps taken by Bishnah police to curb the menace of substance abuse against the kingpins and anti-social elements.
Speaking on the occasion, president Beopar Mandal Naryan Dutt Sharma and president NGO Sadda Chowk Bishnah Anirudh Sharma reiterated their commitment to work with zeal and dedication for a drug free society.
All the members present there took a pledge for ensuring “Drug Free Society’’ and assured to extend their cooperation to achieve this nobel cause.
