DF&SS protests against delimitation exercise

JAMMU, Jan 3: Workers of Dogra Front & Shiv Sena (DF&SS) under the leadership of their president, Ashok Gupta here today took out a protest rally against the delimitation exercise for increasing seats to Jammu far less than what the region deserves in Legislative Assembly.
In a handout, DF&SS stated that the administrative order of erstwhile princely State of J&K as regards the two regions of Jammu and Kashmir had Jammu region with area of 36315 sq. km with five districts—Mirpur, Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi comprising 18 Tehsils plus two Jagirs—Poonch and Chenani.
It further quoted the administrative order of erstwhile princely State of J&K to say that Kashmir region had area of 22133 sq. km with three districts—Muzaffrabad, Baramulla and Anantnag comprising only 10 Tehsils.
Addressing protesters Ashok Gupta said in 1947 after Pakistani illegal occupation of some areas of J&K including Mirpur and Muzaffrabad districts, the areas remaining free from Pakistani occupation were Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Poonch Jagir and Chenani Jagir in Jammu region having area of 26293 sq. km were reorganized as six district of Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur and Doda and the areas of two districts—Anantnag and Baramulla in Kashmir region having area of 15948 sq. km were reorganized as three districts of Anantnag, Srinagar and Baramulla.
