JAMMU, July 23: The workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena (DFSS) under the leadership of their president, Ashok Gupta, took out a procession in Jammu city against the non availability of electricity and water in Jammu.
Ashok Gupta alleged that for last one month, entire Jammu is reeling under the acute scarcity of drinking water. He stated that PHE is harassing the general public to buy the ERA connections and selling the water through the ERA Best Price shop.
He further stated that the people have no water to cook food, wash clothes and utensils and even for performing pooja and last rituals for cremation. He said the people are purchasing drinking water from the private water tankers and the PHE tankers are unable to meet the requirement of the people due to heavy demand.
“The Government has turned a blind eye to the issues of power cuts and water crisis in the city. There are areas which are reeling under severe shortage of water, as power cuts of 9 hours a day in many areas are affecting water supply”, he added.
Gupta said that apart from power cuts, most areas in Jammu are facing heavy voltage fluctuations due to which there were reports of damage to electronic gadgets like TV, refrigerator and air-conditioners. He added that despite paying charges for the electricity and water, the people are deprived of the same.
He demanded that a committee should be formed to look into the matter as why needs of Jammu are neglected when Secretariat shifts to Srinagar. He demanded that all pumping station should have 24 hours power supply so that people of the city don’t have to suffer on account of water shortage.
