LEH, Aug 29: The Director General Border Roads Organization Lt General Harpal Singh inaugurated a vital bridge on Nimmu-Padam -Darcha road in the Himalayan region of Ladakh .
The bridge constructed on river Indus, three kilometer from Nimmu with a span of 70 m steel super structure, will connect Padam (Zanaskar ) once the construction work of the road is over. The bridge, first of the series of the bridges on this important Nimmu-Padam-Darcha axis, was constructed by Project Vijayak .
While complementing the team of 81 Road construction Company for constructing and completing the vital bridge despite tough working conditions, General said that the bridge will facilitate the smooth and hassle free movement of traffic to various villages falling in this sector. ” The area witnesses lot of tourists both in summer and winter as lot of tourists travelled through on a frozen Chadder Track to Zanskar and the better connectivity will boost the tourism “, DG said .
Lt General impressed upon all ranks of Project Vijayak to make all out efforts to expedite the double- laning work of Nimmu-Padam road to ensure a trans-border connectivity to the Himachal via Padam at the earliest.
