SRINAGAR, Apr 6: DGP J&K Dilbag Singh and DG BCAS Zulfiquar Hasan held a high-level meeting here today to review the functioning and security of the Srinagar International Airport.
The meeting was attended by various senior officers from administration, police, and CRPF. They discussed measures to ease congestion at the airport and attract more tourists.
To achieve this, the authorities decided to increase baggage checking machines at the main gate, provide electric vehicles to ferry passengers from the main gate to the terminal, and open a police facilitation counter at the airport for the convenience of tourists.
They also planned to establish a police unit to cater to the tourist requirements and conduct a joint security audit of the airport and its surroundings to neutralize any threats.
The meeting also decided that the authorities will ensure that no passenger is overcharged for any service, including taxi services.
It was further decided that the authorities will consider a proposal for an extended baggage cum check-in counter in Srinagar City, preferably at the Tourist Reception Centre, to reduce the load at the airport’s main gate and facilitate passengers.
“These measures will help reduce congestion, facilitate passengers, and increase air traffic to Srinagar Airport, especially in view of the upcoming G20 visit, tourist season, and Amarnath Yatra,” observed the meeting.
