JAMMU, Mar 9: Describing community policing an effective tool to make public a partner in day-to-day policing, Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S. P. Vaid today stressed to bring visible changes in the working of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP).
The DGP said without public partnership the department cannot imagine a successful policing, adding police needs to change its attitude at grass route level.
Dr. Vaid was addressing senior police officers meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. He said that besides other professional duties JKP has to focus on improving working of the organization at lowest level.
The DGP disclosed that in the recent years well qualified and talented youth have been inducted in the force and the organization and using their capabilities would bring further improvements in its working.
He said the department has well qualified work force, which can help us to build the image of the organization among the public. At Thana level police has a vital role to play in reshaping its work culture, the DGP added.
He further said that motto of department is to bring JKP at par with the forces of developed countries, where the police represents as public servant instead of an aggressive forces.
“We have to remain on forefront in solving the problems of common masses and bring them into the notice of concerned authorities for redressal and provide a helping hand during times of need,” the DGP said.
He asked the officers to utilize their resources and organize refresher courses for their subordinates in order to bring necessary improvements in their working.
During the meeting, Dr Vaid shared his experiences of policing in developed countries and said that the commitment and dedication would definitely improve policing and the public also would respond positively. He explained that like any other Government servant, policeman also gets its salary from the tax collected from general public and is therefore and supposed to behave in a manner that does not hurt a common man.
