JAMMU, Sept 4: Director General of Police (DGP), Dilbag Singh, today visited the Police Technical Training Institute (PTTI) in Vijaypur.
During his visit, the DGP inaugurated a newly established moot court, a crucial addition to the training program.
This moot court aims to provide trainees and police personnel with a practical understanding of court proceedings, helping them identify any shortcomings during investigations.
As part of the national campaign “Meri Matti Mera Desh,” the DGP also initiated the “Amrit Kalash Yatra” and a plantation drive.
Upon his arrival, the DGP kick-started the Amrit Kalash Yatra and joined senior officers in planting saplings within the training institute.
The highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the moot court, which will serve as a valuable training tool. During the event, the PTTI faculty conducted a live trial of a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case in the moot court.
DGP Dilbag Singh praised the efforts of PTTI Vijaypur and emphasized that the moot court mock trials would enhance the trainees’ and police personnel’s understanding of court proceedings, refining their abilities to address any gaps in investigations.
He encouraged more such moot court mock drills in the future to improve the professionalism and skills of prosecution, witnesses, and investigating officers, particularly in cases related to NDPS and UAPA, ensuring justice is served.
The DGP stressed the importance of dedicated efforts to improve the conviction rate in heinous crimes.
He emphasized that quality investigation of UAPA and NDPS cases is essential to combat militancy and drug-related issues in the Union Territory.
“Investigations must continue until the final judgment of the court,” he said.
The establishment of moot courtrooms in police training institutions is part of ongoing efforts by the Police Headquarters to provide an overview of court proceedings to investigation officers, helping them identify any gaps during the investigative process.
DGP Dilbag Singh applauded Principal PTTI Vijaypur, Shiv Kumar Sharma, and the PTTI staff for their dedication and initiatives in enhancing the institution’s capabilities.
The inaugural event was attended by several senior officers, including DIGs and other dignitaries, who recognized the importance of the moot court in training the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
