Dharmarth Trust pays rich tributes to Maharaja Ranbir Singh

JAMMU, Sept 12: J&K Dharmarth Trust today paid rich tributes to Maharaja Ranbir Singh during a programme organized at the Ranbireshwar Temple on his 136th death anniversary.
Elaborate arrangements were made on the occasion by Dr Gopal Parthasarthi Sharma, Secretary and Varinder Singh Jamwal, Additional Secretary of J&K Dharmarth Trust to make the programme successful.
Meanwhile, Advocate Ajay Gandotra, President Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust, in a handout issued to media, highlighted the lifetime contributions of Maharaja Ranbir Singh for the people of his kingdom.
Dharmarth Trust President, while highlighting the warrior qualities of late Maharaja Ranbir Singh, said that it was he who went on to annex Gilgit which had previously witnessed a rebellion against the state and the princely states of Hunza and Nagar started paying tributes to Jammu and Kashmir during his reign. Even in the field of justice Maharaja Ranbir Singh established a modern judicial system compiling civil laws and compiling criminal laws in the form of Ranbir Penal Code during his reign, Gandotra asserted.
It is pertinent to mention here that Ranbir Singh was the third son of Maharaja Gulab Singh and ascended to the throne in August 1854 and continued to rule till his death on 12th September 1885.
