BHADERWAH, Aug 10: Despite lapse of 15 years, the residents of village Dheraja await construction of bridge.
The village located only one and a half Kilometer from the main city, has been living without basic amenities for the past one and a half decades.
The residents of the village have been cut off from the city, courtesy to grave lack of apathy from the authorities who have made zilch progress towards the construction of a bridge connecting them to the outer world.
The residents of around one thousand households of the village are forced to put their lives in danger as they get to the other side of the town by passing through thin sheets of tin, which were laid as a provisional arrangement till the bridge would come up. The provisional arrangement became the permanent one, as the bridge never came up, despite lapse of 15 long years.
Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation Limited (JKPCC), the agency responsible for the construction of bridge, never made any serious efforts towards the initiation of the project, the locals informed.
“We ran from post to pillars and got the road approved after a struggle of 4 years”, said Mohammad Ashraf, a villager, adding that the bridge to connect our village to the outer area has not been constructed despite lapse of 15 years.
“Over 500 students of different ages go through this dangerous thin sheets pass by putting their life in extreme danger for continuing their education”, said Iqbal Mir, father of two school going kids.
As life hangs on fine line of necessities and ignorance for people in Dheraja, all they can do is pray for their fortune to change as going to authorities, including concerned MLA and MLC, has only got them excuses in return.
“Nobody bothers about us. We are nobodies for them. If only those sitting in power put themselves in our shoes, even in their thoughts, they could realize what life is for us here,” rues Iqbal Mir.
