JAMMU, Aug 22: Police today arrested a “dhongi baba” and his associate from Malhotra Complex, Canal Road for duping people of cash and other valuables.
A police spokesman said that, a woman Sunita (fake name) lodged a complaint with Police Post Canal Road that some fake ‘babas’ operating from Malhotra Complex, Canal Road had duped her of Rs 55,000 on the pretext of solving her problems.
After registering a case under FIR number 130/13 under Sections 420, 509 RPC at Police Station Nowabad, police started investigation.
During the course of investigation, police party from Canal Road Police Post conducted raid at Malhotra Complex and arrested fake ‘baba’ namely Naseer-ud-Din, son of Ahmed Hassan of Tarapori Lisadi, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh along with his associate Mohammad Rayees, son of Mohammad Khalil of Ismail Nagar, Meerut Uttar Pradesh.
The fake ‘baba’ and his associate had hired an office on the name of “MS Khan Bharti” at Malhotra Complex, he said, adding that they were duping people of their valuables and cash by giving false assurances that there matter regarding love affairs, matrimonial, disputes and personal problems will be solved within 72 hours.
Dhongi baba along with his associates cheated number of innocent people and took away their cash on false promises, he added.
The modus operandi of the gang was to attract general people especially women by publishing their advertisement in newspapers and local channels for solving the problems of people, he said.
One of their associate Mohammad Sadiq, son of Mohammad Yameen of Shastri Nagar, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh is absconding and manhunt has been launched to arrest him, he added.
The arrest was made by Incharge Police Post Canal Road SI Hilal Azhar and SHO Nowabad SI Jaipal Sharma under the supervision of SP North JS Johar Singh, SDPO West Shabir Khan and SSP Jammu Atul Goel.
