Dialogue after polls: Mirwaiz

Mir Farhat
Srinagar, Feb 23: The chairman of the moderate faction of the Hurriyat conference, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq today hoped to resume dialogue process with the Centre after forthcoming Parliament elections.
Speaking at a seminar, Mirwaiz said: “After the polls new Government will be formed, the peace process will move forward and talks will be held.”
The Hurriyat chairman asked people to trust the separatist leadership. “Whenever we take part in dialogue with India, we are looked at with suspicion. A lot of confusion is created among Kashmiri people over the dialogue. Dialogue is part of our resistance movement. Those who enter into dialogue process represent a thought. People should have trust on us that we represent their sentiments, aspirations,” he added.
Mirwaiz said that a new Government will be formed at the Centre after elections and Pakistan has got a new Government. “Talks will resume between the two, other issues will be discussed”, he hoped.
The separatist leader said that Kashmir is not a religious or regional issue but a political issue. He slammed Government of India for adopting militaristic approach over Kashmir.
Mirwaiz said separatist that politics and military policy cannot go together. “Government of India should change its military policy in Kashmir. It should come forward with political approach, stop oppression, revoke draconian laws like AFSPA. Then an atmosphere for dialogue will be created,” he said.
The separatist leader, however, said the Government of India has failed to show any seriousness and sincerity in the dialogue process.
Mirwaiz lashed out at those separatist leaders who call for shutdown and protests. “Resistance does not mean calling for strikes or protests every day. Dialogue is also a part of resistance. Our movement has reached to a stage where it is infused into consciousness of the people”, he added.
