Differences in PAGD over seat sharing

Srinagar, Nov 26: The constituent party of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), PDP today raised serious concerns over the seat-sharing mechanism and accused National Conference of fielding its candidates against the Alliance candidates fighting the DDC polls.
PDP’s General Secretary and senior leader Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura said there have been differences about the seat-sharing earlier in the PAGD, however, the same has been observed on the ground as well.
“There were differences which were later resolved, but the ground situation is very different. When the seat-sharing about Budgam came to the fore, PAGD had difference and the same was resolved, when the list was out of 14 seats, only 1 was given to the PDP and that too without any consultation,” he said.

He said that in Chrar-e-Sharief, the PDP was told that 2 seats would be given to it and 2 will go to NC. “What happened was the opposite and more so, in Surasyar block, the NC fielded its block president as an Independent candidate, then he was declared as an official candidate and Pakherpora was given to JKPM,” he said.
He said that the DDC elections hold no importance to the PDP and that the party had already conveyed to the NC they can fight the elections and the PDP would extend its full support. “Seat sharing was already decided, there were differences, but the PDP is sincere with PAGD. We had asked NC to fight with the support of PDP, but they did not agree,” he said.
Similarly, he said, for Chadoora, it was decided that one will go to the NC and one more will go the PDP. “This was decided, but as per the list it all went to NC,” he said.
Hanjura appealed to Dr Farooq Abdullah who is also the President of the Alliance, to intervene into the matter and review the lists that have been issued. “I appeal to Farooq Abdullah to review it once again as it has also been observed that wherever the seat has been given to the PDP, there the NC’s official candidate is also fighting,” he alleged.
“And wherever the Congress was given the seats-then they backed out-those seats were also given to NC without any consultation, it cannot work like this,” he said.
Commenting over the security cover given to the candidates fighting the DDC elections, Hanjura said it is nothing but a joke in the name of security cover. “In the name of security, the candidates are being held at the hotels. All the candidates are bundled in one vehicle and are being told for campaigning, how are going to campaign like this. Elections are not held like this,” he said.
