SAMBA, Aug 29: In a strategic move to bolster security ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, conducted an intensive night patrol in district Samba on the intervening night of August 28-29.
Accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba Vinay Kumar, IC ASP Bari Brahmana Mukund, and other senior police officers, DIG Sharma oversaw area domination and security checks across the district. The operation included Naka checking at various locations, with a particular focus on the sensitive Samba-Kathua border.
During the patrol, DIG Sharma instructed officers to enhance surveillance through increased area domination, the strengthening of Nakas and the utilization of CCTV systems. He underscored the importance of vigilance against suspicious activities, particularly in the lead-up to the Assembly elections. “We must maintain a peaceful environment and thwart the designs of anti-national elements,” the DIG emphasized.
In addition to coordinating with local law enforcement, the DIG engaged with the public in border areas, urging them to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station immediately. He also visited several Border Out Posts (BOPs) and met with officers and personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF), highlighting the importance of cooperation between the J&K Police and the BSF.
Reviewing the security arrangements for the upcoming elections, the DIG provided detailed guidelines to the territorial officers, emphasizing the need for foolproof security measures during the election campaign. He directed SSP Samba to ensure that officers deployed at Nakas remain extra vigilant and receive regular briefings to maintain high alertness levels.
This night patrol underscores the security forces’ commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment during the election period, with the DIG leading efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
