JAMMU, July 12: Dr Sunil Gupta, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, chaired a comprehensive meeting today to review the crime and security scenario in Samba District.
Attendees included SSP Samba, Additional SP Samba, DySP DAR Samba, and all SDPOs and SHOs of the district.
The meeting began with SSP Samba providing an overview of the district’s current crime and security situation.
Addressing the meeting, the DIG Gupta emphasized strengthening border police posts, link road nakas, and area domination by Village Defence Groups (VDGs).
He directed officers to rigorously check outsiders and take stringent action against drug peddlers, bovine smugglers, thieves and vehicle lifters.
Addressing the drug issue, DIG Gupta called for a mission-oriented approach to dismantle illicit drug networks and eliminate this societal menace, issuing guidelines for the “Nasha Mukt” initiative.
He also underscored the importance of vigilance on suspicious persons to thwart anti-national elements and stressed special care for Amarnath Yatra pilgrims on NHW, ensuring incidents like the Saida attack do not recur.
DIG Gupta instructed officers to liaise with the Army, BSF and CRPF, and establish joint nakas for better results.
Security measures for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra were also reviewed. He emphasized increasing the installation of CCTV cameras with proper record-keeping to monitor miscreants’ activities, covering all inter-district routes, and vulnerable points with surveillance.
The meeting also discussed the hinterland and border security plans already in place to enhance future performance.
Necessary directives were issued to ensure effective implementation of strategies to reduce pending investigations, dispose off complaints in a timely manner, control the drug menace, vehicle thefts and burglaries, and maintain a peaceful atmosphere in Samba District.
