DIG JSK Range virtually reviews crime scenario in Kathua, Samba

JAMMU, June 8: Dr Sunil Gupta, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police for the Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, conducted a comprehensive virtual crime review meeting for the districts of Kathua and Samba today.
A statement said that SSP Kathua, SSP Samba, Additional SPs, DySP Headquarters Samba/Kathua, all SDPOs, DySP DAR Kathua, and all Station House Officers (SHOs) of the twin districts participated in the meeting.
It said that during the session, SSP Kathua and SSP Samba provided updates on the current crime and law and order situation in their districts.
DIG Gupta emphasized the need to expedite the resolution of pending investigations, including backlog cases and inquest proceedings.
He also called for firm action against drug peddlers and other anti-social elements.
Addressing the drug issue, DIG Gupta urged officers to adopt a mission-oriented approach to eliminate the drug menace.
He called for intensified efforts to identify and dismantle drug networks, stressing the importance of eradicating this societal threat.
He also instructed SHOs to maintain lists of drug addicts and peddlers at the Police Station level, identify and seize the properties of drug peddlers and gangsters to weaken their operations.
Officers were advised to implement the Beat System in their jurisdictions and maintain Beat Books. Beat officers/officials were directed to identify and document gangsters, thieves, problem shooters, muscle men, drug addicts and peddlers in Police Station records.
The DIG also instructed officers to increase the installation of CCTV cameras and maintain proper records to monitor miscreants’ activities.
He encouraged engagement with local communities to facilitate the installation of CCTV cameras, enhancing surveillance and creating safer environments. Interstate and inter-district routes were to be covered with CCTV cameras at all vulnerable points.
Officers were also briefed on launching Operation Touch and Operation Shajra related to militancy. They were directed to motivate their field formations to work diligently and gather valuable information under these operations.
The meeting concluded with directives to ensure the effective implementation of strategies discussed for reducing pending investigations, timely disposal of complaints, controlling the drug menace, vehicle thefts, burglaries, and maintaining peace in the districts.
