SRINAGAR, May 16: According to Deputy Inspector General of Police Traffic Kashmir Range stickers of different colours (Florescent for Central Kashmir, Red for North Kashmir and Blue for South Kashmir) for Sumos and Taveras having affiliation with different registered Sumo Stands of Srinagar City and rural areas of Kashmir valley were introduced in presence of different Sumo Stand Unions.
The main objective of displaying the stickers on front and rear windshield of these vehicles is to facilitate the commuters to make complaints against the erring driver found over charging, over speeding, over loading, rash and negligent driving or report of any misbehavior. Complaints could be made on the Toll free No. 18001807191 or on Phone numbers of concerned Sumo Stands reflected on the sticker with vehicle number for appropriate action.
The stickers have been used to check the menace of stray Sumos and Taveras which are plying in city Srinagar in large number from North and South Kashmir and other rural districts of the Central Kashmir. These stray Sumos are picking up and dropping passengers at different places of City Srinagar causing difficulty to the commuters besides creating traffic jam. He said that to identify such Sumos, stickers have been introduced.
During the briefing to Operators and Drivers, DIG Traffic advised them not to use mobile phones while driving, avoid dangerous driving, overloading, over speeding etc. which are the main causes of traffic accidents especially on the highway.
