Digital India transforming lives of rural India: Col Mahan

KATHUA, July 26: Col (retd) Mahan Singh, Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Kathua has appreciated Digital India Mission of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and asserted that it is changing lives of millions across rural India. He stated this on the sidelines of a function organized by District Administration, Kathua at Lakhanpur as part of Digital Jammu & Kashmir campaign launched online by the Lt Governor from Srinagar.
Around 25 digital stalls were laid by various departments to show case digital services available on the click of mouse or mobile button.
Two mobile vehicles for awareness in entire district on digital services were also flagged off by the DDC Chairman from the venue. The week -long programmes will continue during which seminars and awareness drives will be organized. Col Mahan Singh said that this campaign is aimed at promoting maximum use of internet apps and online services.
Col Mahan Singh informed that the Lt Governor has already issued directions to ensure taking effective measures to provide last mile solution in digital services to the people of J&K and as per the long-term vision statements every nook and corner of J&K will get transformed core ICT infrastructure, governance and services for ease of living, accessibility, innovation. He exuded confidence that the initiative will undoubtedly transform the rural landscape of Jammu and Kashmir into a digitally empowered society.
Detailing further about the initiative Col Mahan Singh said ‘Digi Dost’ programme launched by the LG will develop a strong network of digitally empowered young volunteers at district, block and Panchayat levels as a result of which maximum mobilization and awareness on digital services will be achieved easily in rural belts too. People here will now learn about the cyber hygiene and cybercrimes. He observed that ‘digitally empowered’ is a new yardstick to measure the progress and prosperity especially that of rural India and take measures to bring the requisite transformation.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were DDC Vice Chairman, SSP Kathua, Municipal Committee president, Lakhanpur, Gopal Mahajan, DDC Dr Shaveta and ND Tripathi.
