JAMMU, Feb 5: Centre Government’s Special Representative on Jammu and Kashmir, Dineshwar Sharma today met Governor NN Vohra and inter-acted with him on various aspects of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He also visited International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector, which witnessed intense shelling last month and would tour Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri districts for the next two days during his four-day visit.
Soon after his arrival here on exclusive four-day visit to Jammu, Dineshwar left for the International Border in RS Pura sector, where he visited forward areas of Shamka, Tonkan Wali, Chakroi and Jeora Farm, where large scale destruction was caused by Pakistani Rangers during ceasefire violations between January 18 and 22 while some civilians also lost their lives and many others were injured.
Dineshwar, according to sources, had detailed inter-action with the people living in border villages and listened to their demands. The border residents reiterated the demand for allotment of 5-marla plots to them in safer zones, construction of bunkers, enhancement in relief for the people killed and injured in border shelling and firing, relief for cattle killed and damage caused to the property.
Sharma was at the International Border for about two hours. He also visited areas, where extensive damage had been caused by Pakistani shelling. The people narrated details of the shelling and firing by the Pakistani Rangers.
The people told the Government of India’s Interlocutor that they were facing lot of problems due to frequent shelling by the Rangers as they had to leave their homes and hearths a number of times and studies of the children was also getting affected very badly as schools had to be closed due to Pakistan shelling and firing.
Some of the border dwellers projected the demand of opening schools in safer zones so that studies of children aren’t affected even during the shelling.
Dineshwar Sharma would tomorrow visit Poonch district and is likely to tour some forward villages on the Line of Control, especially the villages affected by Pakistan shelling and firing. On Wednesday, he would visit Rajouri district and was also likely to tour some forward villages and meet the people putting up in the relief camps in Nowshera sector.
In the evening, Sharma met Governor NN Vohra at the Raj Bhawan and discussed with him the security situation prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir including the borders.
“The Governor and the Interlocutor discussed issues related to recurring ceasefire violations along the LoC, internal security situation and initiatives required for protecting and promoting educational and career interests of the youth,” a Raj Bhawan spokesman said.
