Dip in Corona cases in Kashmir; 1383 test +ve, 16 die

SRINAGAR, May 24 : The COVID-19 positive cases in Kashmir dipped today with 1383 cases reported from Valley and 16 died taking the Jammu and Kashmir death toll due to the viral infection to 3,609.
Those who died today include a 70-year-old woman from Kralpora Budgam, a 65-year-old man from Jawalpora Budgam, an 80-year-old woman Hazratbal Srinagar, a 52-year-old woman from Nowgam Wanbal Budgam, a 60-year-old woman from Saida Pora Arihal in Pulwama, a 60-year-old woman from Murran Hardpora in Pulwama, a 52-year-old from Zadoora Pulwama, a 55-year-old woman from Gojwara Srinagar, 55-year old woman from Ishbar Nishat Srinagar, a 75-year-old woman from Tailbal Srinagar, a 76-year-old man from Humhama and a 57-year-old from Kunzer Tangmarg.
Those who tested positive include 309 Srinagar, 103 Baramulla, 221 Budgam, 77 Pulwama, 204 Kupwara,  106 Anantnag, 77 Bandipora, 91 Ganderbal, 168 Kulgam and 26 from Shopian.
As per officials figures, 62,468 positive cases including 737 deaths and 56,048 recoveries are from Srinagar, 19,955  including 243 deaths and 16,889 recoveries are from Baramulla, 18,895 including 14,267 recoveries and 164 deaths are from Budgam, 12,008  including 9,620 recoveries and 156 deaths are from Pulwama, 10,887 including 135 deaths and 8,847 recoveries are from Kupwara, 13,280 including 9,334 recoveries and 149 deaths are from Anantnag, 7,957 cases including 6,657 and 83 deaths are from Bandipora, 7,876 including 6,642 recoveries and 66 deaths are from Ganderbal, 9,159 including 6,553 recoveries and 90 deaths are from Kulgam and 4,995 including 3,854 recoveries and 54 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached to 167,480 including 138,711 recoveries and 1,877 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division have reached to 105,378 including 84,908 recoveries and 1,732 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 45,630 including 26,892 from Kashmir division.
With 3,999 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 223,619 which is 81.95 percent of the total cases.
Kashmir continued to remain under strict curfew for the 26th day today in order to prevent the deadly virus from spreading. Police arrested 184 persons and Rs 1,41,840 has been realized as fine for norm violations.
Railway authorities today extended the suspension of train services from Banihal to Baramulla and vice versa in Kashmir till May 31.
The railways have taken the decision on the request by the J&K administration and have subsequently informed the field agencies about it.
On May 10, authorities suspended the services in view of the COVID-19 in Kashmir and as per the guidelines and SOPs issued by the Government.
Most of the roads in the Valley wore deserted look throughout the day as the police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on the roads, who enforced strict curfew.
Police and paramilitary troopers deployed on the roads had erected concertina wires on the roads to prevent movement of people.
Shops and business establishments barring emergency services remained closed throughout the day in Srinagar and other districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The vehicular traffic movement was witnessed at some places in Srinagar.
Police arrested 184 persons, lodged 94 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 1,41,840 from 910 people for violating the guidelines and rules throughout Kashmir.
“Besides, 44 vehicles were also seized in Shopian for violating guidelines and restrictions,” police said, adding that the special drive against the violators of Covid-19 guidelines and rules continued throughout all the districts of Kashmir valley to ensure that people adhere to SOPs and guidelines envisaged by Government to curb COVID-19 pandemic.
