Director Agriculture takes stock of farmers’ welfare schemes, programmes

JAMMU, May 4: Director Agriculture Jammu Hari Krishan Razdan along with team of officers today visited Banihal and Ramban areas and took stock of ongoing farmers’ welfare schemes and programmes.
Director Agriculture assessed the general condition of current rabi season cereal and vegetable crops and interacted with the field functionaries for preparations of the ensuing kharif season including centre-wise requirements of various inputs and opening of sale outlets.
Razdan also inspected the Vegetable Improvement Farm located at Thathar, Banihal which is the only farm of the temperate zone of Jammu division. He directed the farm staff to make all out efforts to optimize and improve the open pollinated varieties seeds of vegetables as per seed certification norms.
He also took a review meeting of officers and field functionaries at Ramban in which he stressed to create awareness regarding various ongoing farmers’ welfare schemes and programmes. He directed the field staff to adopt the scientific temperament and to strive hard to complete all the targets fixed under various schemes to achieve the higher sustainable level of agriculture production and yield per unit area.
Director also stressed on following the guidelines and norms and also taking the local representatives into confidence while implementing various farmers’ welfare schemes. The extension functionaries highlighted the success achieved by various vegetable growers and their growing enthusiasm for the cultivation of peas and apiculture in the area.
Director was accompanied by KK Gupta, Chief Agriculture Officer, Ramban, Ilyas Gattu, ASCO, Ramban, Madan Gopal Singh, SDAO, Ramban, Sukhbir Singh, SDAO, Gool, Ashwani Kumar, Subject Matter Specialist, KK Khuda, SCA, Agriculture Extension Officers, JAEOs and VAEAs.
