JAMMU, Aug 18: Director Horticulture Jammu, Ram Savak today conducted a extensive tour of district Rajouri and chaired an awareness cum interaction programme at Panchayat Seri, Nowshera zone wherein Chief Horticulture Officer, Madan Lal Tak and other officers besides large number of farmers including women, Sarpanches and PRI members of the area participated.
Addressing farmers and fruit growers the Director stressed on the need to encourage high density plantation in the area and adopt cluster approach to establish new orchards.
He said that the Department is providing all assistance to the farmers and they should take all the benefits of centrally and UT sponsored schemes of the Department. The Director urged the farmers to adopt integrated farming in their fields and avail the benefits on different components like bore well, water harvesting tanks, drip irrigation, vermicompost units etc for upliftment of their socio economic status.
He also inaugurated one month training programme on fruit and vegetable preservation at village Narian for women.
Earlier the Chief Horticulture Officer Rajouri apprised the Director about the works going on in the field under different departmental schemes.
Later the Director started plantation drive by planting mango and citrus plants at village Kangri, Sunderbani and Seri, Nowshera zone.
