Director ISM reviews functioning of AYUSH sector

JAMMU, Sept 7: Director, Indian Systems of Medicine J&K, Dr Mohan Singh held series of online meetings with District Officers, to review the functioning of ISM Department and the implementation of central ad UT level AYUSH schemes across twenty districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The implementation of schemes like National AYUSH Mission, NABARD, Establishment of AYUSH Health & Wellness centres (HWCs), alongwith the physical & financial progress made under various heads (Plan/Non-Plan/, National AYUSH Mission) besides assessment of work done for preventive measures to tackle COVID-19 pandemic through AYUSH interventions were thoroughly deliberated with all District Officers.
The Director advised to expedite the works on 450 Bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospitals approved by Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India being established at Kathua, Kishtwar, Kupwara and Kulgam for which funds stand released to the executing agencies. He informed that three more Integrated AYUSH Hospitals have been approved by Ministry of AYUSH to be established at Bandipora, Anantnag and Samba.
Director reviewed the progress of 94 AYUSH Health & Wellness centres which have been established in J&K by upgrading the existing ISM Institutions, under National AYUSH Mission to provide comprehensive Primary Health Care, through AYUSH principles and practices.
He further advised all the District Officers to identify out of the existing ISM Dispensaries 100 more AYUSH Health & Wellness Centres which have been approved by Ministry of AYUSH for establishment during current financial year. He informed that under National AYUSH Mission, 90 contractual staff of various categories viz Ayurvedic & Unani Specialists, Medical Officers, paramedical staff, fourth class have been hired and UT level Programme Management Unit has also been established. He further advised to all District Officers for expediting establishment of District Program Management units which are envisaged to be established in all the Districts to strengthen the AYUSH District Management.
The Director directed District officer Doda to religiously follow up the works on the prestigious Institute of High Altitude of Medicinal Plants, a National level Institute being established at Bhaderwah.
The planning section of Directorate of ISM informed that 271 Kanal of land has been transferred/Identified for establishing various AYUSH Institutes, AYUSH Hospitals, ISM Dispensaries, Institute of High Altitude Medicinal plants, Homeopathic Medical College at Kathua & Establishment of office of ADMO’s and District ISM Drug store at Udhampur and Kathua.
Nodal Officers Government Ayurvedic Medical College informed that the construction work in the Government Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital at Akhnoor Jammu is at the final stage of completion. The OPD services at Akhnoor have already been started. The college which is right now functioning at the makeshift arrangement at Govt Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu is imparting Ayurvedic Medical education to students selected through NEET/BOPEE.
Director ISM directed the concerned for shifting of the college and Hospital to Akhnoor as early as possible. Nodal Officer Govt Unani Medical College and Hospital Ganderbal informed that the College is at the final stages of completion.
The prerequisites for starting the 1st batch of BUMS Course at Govt. Unani Medical College cum Hospital at Ganderbal have already been completed and submitted to Ministry of AYUSH and the first batch of students are likely to be admitted during the current year. The OPD services in the College cum Hospital Campus at Ganderbal has also been operationalized.
