Director Tourism endorses people’s demand on Devika

SAMBA, Dec 24: Director Tourism, Deepika K Sharma has asked the District Administration Samba to designate a specific place i. e Cremation Shed, Panjthirath Ghat downstream near Bus Stand Purmandal or any other place deemed appropriate by the administration so that the sanctity of the holy Devika at pilgrimage centre of Purmandal is maintained.
The Director Tourism, while endorsing the representation of various organizations to the DC Samba including that of Dogra Brahmin Sabha , Samba, Shri Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha, Samba, All J&K Dogra Pujari Jyotshi and Shastri Sangh, Jammu province, Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha , Jammu province, All J&K Tourist Taxi Operators Federation and prominent citizens of the region demanding imposition of ban on cremations in holy Devika river bed has sought appropriate action on the part of district administration in this regard.
In their representations to the authorities these organizations have said that it is very sad to point out that the space i.e river bed beneath the holy Shiva temple complex at Purmandal which is actually meant for the religious activities like bathing, Havan and Yaga and performance of other religious rites etc is presently being used for cremation of dead bodies causing grave problems to the visiting pilgrims to the shrine as lot of pollution is crated due to the burning of pyres beneath the holy temple.
While expressing concern over cremation of dead on the river bed in holy Devika beneath Shiv Temple complex, the representatives of these organizations have appealed the district administration to impose complete ban on cremations on Devika river bed at places other than the one designated for the purpose i.e the cremations held , Panjtirath Ghat down stream near Bus Stand Purmandal.
