Director ULB visits Solid Waste Management Project sites

JAMMU, Jan 2: Director Urban Local Bodies Soujanya Sharma along with Chief Executive Officers of Municipal Committee Udhampur and Katra, Executive Engineer Local Bodies Division-II and Consultant WAPCOS, Ministry of Water Resources visited the Solid Waste Management Projects at Katra and Udhampur towns.
It is pertinent to mention here that approximately 30 metric ton waste is generated from Katra and approximately the same quantity is being generated from Udhampur town.
The twin towns are facing huge problems in combating the Solid Waste Management problem. Approximately 100 kanals of land has been acquired by both the Municipalities at Mand in Udhampur and at Tantalla in Katra town. The plant will be established at Mand which will convert the waste into compost and RDF.
Soujanya Sharma directed the consultant that projects should be conceived in such a way that the waste is converted into compost, RDF and recyclable products to its maximum.
He informed that the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies Jammu has placed an order for two Bioneer machines which will convert four ton of solid waste into compost daily.
