Directorate of Agriculture organizes training programme for farmers

JAMMU, Mar 19: One day training programme was organized by Directorate of Agriculture here today in which 75 farmers from Doda, Ramban, Rajouri, Poonch districts participated.
The programme was inaugurated by Joint Director Agriculture (Extension ) A K Malhotra. Speaking on the occasion, he said that for the sustainable agriculture farmers should diversify their agriculture techniques to focus on cash crop like vegetables, mushroom cultivation, beekeeping, floriculture etc. in addition to their normal cropping pattern.
Mr Malhotra further said that the continuous use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides the condition of the soil is deteriorating day by day besides the environment has also been polluted to a significant level. As the use of pesticides has resulted into residual effect in the vegetables, fruits and other eatables which has led to a number of diseases to human beings and animals, he added.
During the training programme the farmers were shown the live telecast of Krishi Unnati Mela being held at IARI New Delhi through web casting.
Chander Mohan Sharma Deputy Director Agriculture, (Central) G D Gupta Agriculture Chemist, Vijay Kaw Mushroom Development Officer, R K Hitishi SMS, Arun Makhnotra, Programme Officer, O P Sharma and R R Raina AEOs attended the camp.
