JAMMU, Feb 11: Directorate of AYUSH today organized a seminar in its Jammu office to celebrate the birth anniversary of social reformer and great Unani scholar, Hakim Ajmal Khan which is celebrated as World Unani Day across the World.
Director AYUSH, J&K, Dr Mohan Singh was the chief guest of the function. While providing the historical background of World Unani Day, Dr Mohan Singh said that Hakim Ajmal Khan also known as “Messiah-e Hind” and the King without Crown for his immense diagnostic knowledge and treatment therapies in Unani Systems of Medicine, saw the traditional kind of values as the prime determinant for his mature consciousness and learning who emphasized on establishing laboratories/institutes for research to sustain the traditional systems of Medicine which were once at the verge of extinction during the British colonial rule.
Dr Mohan emphasized on the need to practice Unani Medicine in daily life to take advantage of benefits like all-round fitness, stress relief and enhanced immunity. He further said that the best way to pay homage to Hakim Ajmal Khan is to develop research based methodology in AYUSH systems of Medicine so that the AYUSH systems are promoted worldwide as choice of treatment.
He stressed on the need to carry forward the Unani system by creating awareness at the mass level by involving NGO’s, district administration, schools and other allied and related department. The Director maintained that attempts are being made to mainstream this health system for its holistic approach for treating patients.
Dr Rakesh Raina Assistant Director, Directorate of AYUSH, in his speech highlighted the role of AYUSH in tackling the chronic and lifestyle disorders. He highlighted major achievements of Directorate of AYUSH, J&K in last 2 years.
Speeches/presentation on different topics related to Unani System of Medicine were presented in the seminar. Medical Superintendant/Deputy Medical Superintendant Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu, District AYUSH Officers/ District Nodal officers and Accounts Officer of Directorate of AYUSH also participated in the program.
The Day was also celebrated in all district headquarters across the UT.
