Sir,
We are witnessing the current situation of our State since last one week which has resulted into destruction, damages and deaths. Kashmir as “Paradise on Earth” is going through a tough time and everybody is wondering what happened to the paradise. Many families have become homeless and have suffered huge economic as well as social loss. State is making efforts to provide every kind of support and assistance to the victims.
The crying need of the hour is to take measures to minimise the onset of floods as North Region of India is more prone to floods, draughts, avalanches and landslides due to its geographical location and geological formation, but along with that it is now of utmost importance to introduce Disaster Management as an academic discipline, something that the American Education system has done successfully Disaster Management as an subject in Social Science has already been introduced in the schools by HRD through CBSE. Now its the time for State Govt to advice State School Boards to ensure the inclusion of Disaster Management curriculum. An appropriate component of Disaster Management at the school level will increase awareness among children and in many cases, in parents and family members through these children.
The education content should be so designed as to inculcate skill based training and qualities of leadership which the present student is lacking in. By introducing this subject at school level, our youth will be able to contribute more or less in minimising the occurence of damages, destruction and death, if any such natural calamity occurs. The role of NCC and Scout and Guide is to be further promoted for Disaster Management related work.
Yours etc…
