SRINAGAR, July 28: Former minister Abdul Gani Vakil has criticized the Central Government for applying discriminatory yard sticks in the investigation of the alleged funding against the separatist leaders and allegations of illegal earnings and disproportionate assets against some leaders.
He sought immediate measures for similar kind of investigation of the allegations of illegal spending of public money and accumulation of disproportionate assets by the legislators of both present and previous regimes in the State.
Alleging that when the Central Government has initiated action against the separatist leaders on the allegations of funding of unlawful activities in Kashmir through a probe by National Investigative Agency (NIA), the same yardstick should have been simultaneously applied to the mainstream leaders facing allegations of having accumulated illegal earnings and assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. Vakil said discriminatory investigation against the similar charges of irregularities between two sets of politicians is unacceptable.
Saying that the funds advanced to the State Government for the fast track development of Jammu & Kashmir by the Central Government from time to time have been misutilised by the legislators and ministers of both present and previous regimes, Vakil said the illegal spending of public money by the successive governments of J&K is the main cause of the growing alienation of youth in Kashmir.
Calling upon the Central Government to review its probe theory and desist from the practice of discriminatory process of investigations, Vakil sought immediate investigation of the illegal earnings and disproportionate assets of the legislators and ministers of both present and past regimes through any impartial investigative agency of the Central Government.
