JAMMU, Oct 1: Expressing anguish over disengagement of contractual workers engaged under National Health Mission in Jammu, National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today said they should be respected and honoured because they are the heroes of the society and their being on the road is sad.

“The action of disengagement coming at a time when the health warriors are being saluted around the world for their huge contribution in serving the virus hit population at the peril of their own, and their families’, life is unfortunate”, Rana said while joining the protesting NHM workers at Government Medical College Hospital here this morning.
He sought a compassionate view by the administration to the plight of protesting employees and hoped they would be allowed to continue and adjusted against the available vacancies. Since they have attained experience in meeting challenges like pandemic, their services will be useful for the health sector in general and the suffering people in particular. The administration should find a way out in helping them, as their disengagement will make their families to suffer during these difficult times, he added.
He said the difficult times are not yet over as the threat of virus is looming large and services of health workers at this crucial time is not perhaps advisable. He expressed solidarity with the terminated employees saying the government should show a human heart. Besides there is a need for these workers as the governments in various states of the country are requisitioning the services of retired personnel to meet the challenge.
The protesting workers told the Provincial President that they have rendered their services in the GMC and Associated Hospitals, Jammu, without pay and without taking care of their lives. They said they had been employed under different schemes of NHM for three months, six months and for one year and therefore they want their services to be continued.
“In one of the advertisement of NHM (J&K), there were total 125 posts and of these 107 staff nurses have been terminated while other 18 staff nurses are still working in SMGS Hospital under Laqshya scheme”, they said adding that they were hired under the same order “, they said, recalling that at one point of time they were called as Corona Warriors, but now they are on roads because of the fake promises of regularization by the authorities.
Rana assured them that their issues will be raised at the appropriate forum.
