Dismissed cop held with pistol, heroin

JAMMU, Sept 10: Gangyal police today arrested a dismissed cop and recovered 11 grams heroin and country made pistol from his possession.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Gangyal police station laid a naka at Forest Chowk and signaled a without registration number motorcycle to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the rider accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops intercepted the vehicle after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 11 grams heroin and country made pistol from the possession of the rider and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Surinder Singh alias Janty, son of Onkar Singh, a resident of Ward Number 3, RS Pura.
During preliminary enquiry, it came to fore that the accused had brought the consignment of heroin from Punjab for selling among the youth, but with his arrest, police achieved a major success to save the youth from becoming drug addicts.
The arrested person was a police employee and was dismissed from the services around 10 years back. He was also wanted in a case registered under FIR Number 113/17 under Section 379 RPC with Police Station Gandhi Nagar.
A case under FIR Number 65/17 under Sections 8/21 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 3/25 Arms Act has been registered at Gangyal Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali along with Incharge Greater Kailash Police Post SO Vijay Sharma made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
It is pertinent to mention that, in the past few months, one AK-56, 12 bore with ammunition, one Chinese pistol with ammunition and one country made pistol have been recovered by police in Sub Division South.
