JAMMU, Nov 5: A meeting of displaced Kashmiri Pandits-the direct victims of terrorism was held at Jagti township today. The meeting dwelt on present issues faced by the displaced Pandits.
The participants took note of the democratic Government which is in place after the elections in J&K. It was hoped that concerns of Kashmiri Pandits which escaped the attention of previous regimes would be seriously addressed by the present Government.
After detailed discussion of the problems being faced by the community and also the sufferings being faced by terror victims of various communities, the resolutions were passed for immediate consideration of the Government.
The resolutions demanded a comprehensive policy for the safe return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits be framed in consultation with migrants living in camps and non camp localities, Truth and Reconciliation Commission be established to investigate and identify individuals responsible for genocidal acts against Kashmiri Pandits, fostering accountability and aiding in the healing process for the community, reservation be given in Central Government jobs, specifically in Group C and D categories, age relaxation of five years similar to provisions made for victims of other communal violence, such as the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and the 2002 Gujarat riots.
The resolution also demanded enhancement of relief for relief holders, nullification of distress sale and all distress sales executed under duress by Kashmiri Pandits must be declared null and void to safeguard the rights and properties of displaced families, introduction of Genocide Bill in Parliament, compensation to over-aged youth for setting up their business establishments, medical assistance for migrants suffering from chronic diseases, allotment of business spaces to business owners within the community for establishing their own business.
The meeting also resolved that Government must come out with a policy to provide adequate assistance to those who were victims of terrorism and denied justice.
These resolutions aimed to address the immediate needs and long-term aspirations of Kashmiri Pandits living in camps and non camp areas.
The meeting was presided by Dilip Kumar Pandita and also addressed by Moti Lal Pandita its Chairman. Others who attended included Girdhari Lal Raina , Vir Ji Raina, Ajay Bhat, Mahraj Krishan Raina,Surinder Kumar Bhat, Satish Thaploo, T.K Dhar and Rajinder Dhar.
