Displaced Pandits welcome Nav Srinagar proposal of interlocutors

Jammu, Apr 27: “We fully endorse the formula proposed by the team interlocutors in their revised report on return and restitution of displaced persons from the Valley”, said Dr. K.N. Pandita, Convenor of Jammu Kashmir Nationalist Movement in a press conference here today.
He added that there could be no better option than the one suggested by the team as it caters to the interests of all stakeholders, and at the same time, strengthens secular democratic structure of the nation. It breaks the two and a half decade old stalemate and opens new vista for comprehensive and rapid reconstruction of Kashmir civil society.
Elaborating on the formula, Dr. Pandita said that his organization had been in close touch with all stakeholders in Jammu and Srinagar for quite some time and there was convergence on the feasibility and viability of the formula. He added that Nav Srinagar would be a township on modern lines meeting all civic amenities and shaping comprehensive and inclusive social construct that would be highly conducive to a planned city meant to be the hub of international tourism.
He added that the idea of twin-capital city of Srinagar had been once floated by the former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayed, and only recently Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had proposed to the Central Government for a package of 40,000 crore rupees for expansion of Srinagar and Jammu capital cities. The suggestion of team interlocutors of twin-city of Srinagar is a pragmatic improvement on those proposals.
He implored the Union and the State Governments to show positive response to a very realistic, sensible and just formula that has the potential to put an end to the extirpation of the displaced persons from the valley and open up scope for multi-faceted interaction between all groups to jointly build a prosperous State of Jammu and Kashmir.
JKNM said that the envisaged twin-city/Satellite City will cater to many needs like solidifying harmonious Kashmiri Commune, prospect of running mutually beneficial enterprises among various communities and above all providing political space for the Pandits in a democratic dispensation.
