RAJOURI, Dec 9: With a focus to expedite the disposal of court cases, District Court has started the trial of prisoners from jail with the mode of video conferencing.
Vide letter of Superintendent District Jail Dhangri a request was made for the adjournments of the dates of the cases of the undertrial due to non-availability of police escort/transport for today.
The Principal District and Sessions Judge Rajouri Jaffer Hussain Beg took the initiative to conduct the trial through VC to avoid the delay in trial of undertrial cases and system officer Varun Chibber installed Video Conferencing system in the court room and connection was successfully connected with District Jail authorities Rajouri for attendance of the accused/undertrials through VC. For the assistance of the production of the accused from Jail, Mohammad Rafiq Superintendent Jail Rajouri was on line.
Today, the statement of one witness in the case of undertrial was recovered and in two other cases, arguments were heard where the accused were present through VC.
The facility was inaugurated by Principal District and Sessions Judge Rajouri Jaffer Hussain Beg at District Court Complex Rajouri. The facility was supervised by the Nodal Officer and e-Courts Staff of District Rajouri.
Terming it an important step in the speedy delivery of justice, Principal District and Sessions Judge Rajouri Jaffer Hussain Beg said that VC will be used for extending judicial remands of accused before or during trial without producing the undertrial prisoners before court.
“This will not only save time of courts but it will also save resources of the State, which is being spent in producing accused or undertrial prisoners before courts”, he said, adding that the judiciary in the State is fast adopting information technology in judicial processes to provide effective and expeditions services to the litigants.
He also said that VC facility will also be used in the recording statements of specialist witnesses like doctors, forensic experts and others.
On the occasion, Public Prosecutor representing the state, the counsel for the accused lodged in the District Jail were also present.
