LEH, Mar 31: A District-Level Consultation on Peace Education, organized by Bal Raksha Bharat, brought together educators, students and leaders at Hotel Grand Dragon Leh, to discuss the role of peace-building initiatives in schools. The event focused on fostering peace education and student-led initiatives to create inclusive learning environments.
Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, attended the programme as chief guest, with Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk, as the guest of honor. Key attendees included Director of School Education, Ladakh, Tsering Paldan; Director of Social Welfare, Ladakh, Tashi Dolma; Bal Raksha Bharat State Head, Sharif Bhat; and school representatives.
The consultation commenced with a welcome speech by Sharif Bhat, highlighting Bal Raksha Bharat’s ongoing peace education initiatives. Children’s Group Member Nurboo Dadul spoke on student engagement in addressing concerns, while Tsewang Dolma reflected on the impact of the peace education project. Director of School Education, Ladakh, reiterated the administration’s commitment to integrating peace education into the curriculum.
A cultural performance by Government High School Chumathang students showcased Ladakh’s heritage through music and dance. The event featured a panel discussion on the New Education Policy and National Education Framework, with insights from CEO Leh, Principal DIET Leh, and Bal Raksha Bharat representatives.
Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk stressed the importance of peace education in shaping a compassionate society and called for collaborative efforts between educators, parents and policymakers. Mementoes and certificates were presented to distinguished guests, school leaders, and student representatives for their contributions to peace-building.
Tashi Gyalson emphasized that the National Education Policy (NEP) prioritizes student well-being, emotional resilience, and lifelong learning. He highlighted the need for a robust education system supporting holistic development.
The event concluded with a shared vision of schools as spaces for nurturing peace, empathy, and mutual respect among students.
