REASI, May 29: District Development Commissioner Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan, felicitated a new born girl child and her parents at District Hospital Reasi. This marked the initiation of year long celebrations of birth of every new born girl child in district Reasi as Beti Janmotsav under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme of Department of Social Welfare.
During the function, DDC emphasised the importance of close coordination among other departments to ensure the smooth functioning of the schemes of Social Welfare Department. A one of its kind initiative, DDC emphasised that the objective of this long year celebrations is to prevent gender-biased sex selective elimination, to ensure survival and protection of the girl child and to ensure education and participation of the girl child.
District Social Welfare Officer, Sachin Sharma, appraised that like this and many other initiatives shall be organised at regular intervals which will help in empowering women.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ravinder Manhas, Medical Superintendent Dr. Gopal Dutt and other officers were also present.
