JAMMU, Aug 24: In a meeting Thathri Development Front (TDF) has demanded district status to Sub-Division Thathri and separate Thathri Assembly Constituency for the whole Sub-Division.
Front leaders also demanded a separate Tourism Development Authority for Sub-Division Thathri and send a memorandum to the Lt. Governor of J&K Union Territory in this regard.
They said that old Tehsil Thathri (now Sub-Division Thathri) stands divided into 5 Tehsils and has been ignored by the successive J&K Governments.
They further said that delimitation of Assembly seats has become more necessary in J&K with the creation of eight new districts because some areas of one constituency are falling under the administrative jurisdiction of two districts. For example Inderwal, Chatroo and Thakrai of Inderwal Constituency fall in Kishtwar district where as some parts of erstwhile Thathri Tehsil (Tehsil Kahara, Tehsil Thathri and Tehsil Phagsoo of same Inderwal constituency) remain with district Doda.
The Front leaders claimed that this sort of situation exists in many Assembly segments across J&K which may hamper developmental and other social welfare activities.
The meeting was attended by Ram Rattan Manhas, Kuldeep Kumar Rao, Om Raj Bhall, Advocate Kanwarjeet Singh, Ex. Capt. Layaqat Ali, Behari Lal Bhagat, Javeed Iqbal Batt and Yog Raj Sharma.
