JAMMU, Nov 18: Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu enjoined upon the functionaries of various departments to streamline their working for maintaining the rates of essential commodities especially fruits and vegetable in the markets of Jammu province.
Shantmanu said this while chairing a meeting of officers of various departments held here this evening.
Threadbare discussions were held on various issues pertaining to effective implementation of control on price rise of essential commodities.
It was decided in the meeting that the retail prices for vegetables and fruits would be 40 percent more than the wholesale price. He also emphasized on maintaining uniform rates of set-up boxes presently being sold by local TV channels throughout the province. He directed for regular check on prices and standard of milk and milk products.
He asserted that market checking squads would be constituted for intensive check of market rates of vegetables and fruits and curb black-marketing, hoarding and profiteering of essential commodities.
It was informed that Deputy Commissioner Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu will ensure control on price rise of vegetables, fruits and milk in areas of Jammu district.
Divisional Commissioner assured the members of Consumer Welfare Association that the consumer problems pertaining to price hike of vegetables and fruits in different areas would be checked on priority and stern action would be taken against the violators.
The meeting was attended by DIG Jammu-Kathua Shakeel Beig, Director Horticulture A. K. Sharma, Joint Commissioner JMC, Joint Director Agriculture S. S. Jamwal, Deputy Director CAPD Babu Ram, Deputy Director Horticulture Marketing J. P. Sharma, besides President CWA Vikram Gour, Member CWA D. P. Khajuria, Gen Secy CWA B. M. Kolhi and other senior officers of concerned departments.
Earlier, a delegation lead by Sharmila Bihari Counsellor Economic and Trade Affairs at Netherlands Embassy in New Delhi called on Divisional Commissioner to discuss the potential sectors for setting up joint ventures for economic growth.
Discussions were held on taking up projects in various fields to give impetus to the economic activities in State.
