BUDGAM, May 14: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon, today convened a meeting of senior officers to discuss various issues pertaining to 4/2 lane semi ring road/bypass of Srinagar city.
Briefing the Divisional Commissioner, officials of NHAI informed that the project envisages for construction of 4-lane ring road in Phase-I from Galander (Pampore) to Narbal and 2- lane ring road from Narbal to Wayul in Phase-II.
Giving power point presentation, the executing agency NHAI informed that the project would go a long way in easing the traffic congestion in the city and would reduce cost, time and distance. It was informed that the project would involve districts of Pulwama, Budgam, Baramulla, Bandipora and Ganderbal. It was informed that the project would be implemented on a cost sharing basis of 90:10 between the Centre and the State.
Threadbare deliberations were held on various issues including land acquisition, forest land and trees, assessment of structures that would affect the project, requirement and supply of construction material and clearances from various departments.
The Divisional Commissioner dwelt on the need to consider the project on ecological and environmental aspects also. He also sensitized the officials on various aspects involved in implementing the project. Calling for implementation of the project on war footing, the Divisional Commissioner set time lines for completion of various preliminary formalities.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, Ganderbal, officials of NHAI, SE R&B and other senior officers from line departments.
