Div Com inspects 4th Tawi bridge, airport extension work

JAMMU, Feb 10: Divisional Commissioner Shantmanu along with officers of Irrigation and Flood Control Department and Chief Engineer inspected 4th Tawi bridge today.
The area falling on the left side of Nikki Tawi D/S of 4th Tawi Bridge was also inspected on the request of the people of the area, which was badly damaged due to massive floods of September 2014, in which approach of the 4th bridge was also damaged and most of the buildings located on the left bank of the Nikki Tawi collapsed.
The people of the affected areas requested for immediate protection. The matter was discussed at site and the Divisional Commissioner assured that some concrete solution will be found after having detailed discussion with R&B/JKPCC.
Divisional Commissioner also inspected the site for expansion of airport by shifting of escape of Ranbir Canal, channel of Tawi feeder for Tawi island and distributory D-9A.
Divisional Commissioner was apprised by the Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control that the total project cost of the said work is Rs 65.64 crores including land compensation. The whole work will consist of expansion of existing airport to the extent of additional 1300 feet thereby increasing the existing length of 6700 feet to 8000 feet.
The work which was in progress was also inspected by the Divisional Commissioner, which consisted of 2 channels being constructed on either side with inspection road in the centre. The total length of the escape channel to be constructed is 2300 meters, Tawi feeder channel is 1300 meter and D-9A is 2480 meters.
Divisional Commissioner emphasized that quality of work be ensured and the same should be completed in stipulated time period.
