JAMMU, Nov 2: The old Jewel Hotel/Theatre building situated in the centre of Jammu city, which was in dilapidated condition and lying vacant for last about two decades was today accorded permission for converting into shopping complex by Urban Transport Environment Improvement Committee (UTEIC) at its meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Raghav Langer.
The promoter had proposed to put up a multipurpose shopping complex with two basements for parking and G+4 floors with retail commercial halls. Some old structures exist within the premises which the applicant has proposed to demolish.
The Committee gave permission not only for new infrastructure projects but also renovation of old and dilapidated buildings which have become eye sore for the onlookers.
Meanwhile, for ease of procedure of approval to future projects in Jammu division, the UTIEC committee also recommended its abolition as there is no provision of UTIEC in the new uniform building bylaws.
Taking the cognizance of the grievance, the Divisional Commissioner has approved for recommending the abolition of the UTEIC to the Housing and Urban Development Department.
The meeting also had threadbare discussion on various important issues pertaining to Building Permission issuing authorities, provisions of new uniform building code/Bylaws, notification of bylaws, Transferable Development Rights etc.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner JMC, Avny Lavasa; VC JDA, Pankaj Magotra; SSP Traffic, Koshal Sharma; Chief Town Planner, Anil Raina, ADC Jammu and other members.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner chaired a meeting of the concerned officers to review the progress on demarcation of land for development of new Terminal at Jammu Airport.
The Div Com directed the Animal Husbandry Department to immediately shift the animals and other office buildings to other alternative locations. The Deputy Commissioner Jammu was asked to demarcate the land and handover the same to Airport authorities so that work can be executed on New Airport terminal smoothly.
The Div Com directed the DC Jammu to resolve the land issues, if any and ensure the total land is handed over to Animal Husbandry Department for establishment of their assets.
Meanwhile, the Div Com also reviewed the alignment of Delhi Katra Expressway stretch from Satwari to 4th bridge. The expressway is to be constructed from Delhi to Katra via Kunjwani and Satwari Chowk to Bhagwati Nagar 4th Bridge to link it with the Jammu Akhnoor Road project.
