Div Com reviews measures being taken to contain dengue

JAMMU, Oct 14: Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Shantmanu today reviewed the situation arisen due to spread of dengue epidemic in Jammu division besides taking stock of precautionary and preventing measures being taken to contain this virus.
He said that as per the report submitted by the Director Health Services, Jammu, here today, the Samba and Jammu districts are worst affected by dengue while three cases each have been reported in Udhampur and Kathua districts.
The Divisional Commissioner said that area specific initiatives and strategies have been devised to contain the outbreak, reduce mortality and morbidity. He said the department has constituted rapid response teams at the district and divisional level.  These teams would spray insecticides during the daytime and conduct fogging in the evening, he further said. Besides, other measures being taken up by the department included maintenance of cleanliness in an around habitations, dewatering of coolers, flowers pots and other water containers, spring of kerosene oil in ponds, pits and ditches etc.
He further informed that joint anti fogging drive has also been launched by the Health Department and JMC in the city and dwellings besides educational institutes where there is possibility of mosquitoes. Besides, the concerned officers are creating awareness among the school children about the causes and preventing measures of dengue.
The Div Com informed that the Health Department covers around 50 houses surrounding the residence of detected dengue case.
He took series notice of piling of thousands of tyres lying in the SRTC and transport yards causing excessive breeding of mosquitoes. He asked the JMC Commissioner and DC Jammu to direct the concerned authorities for lifting these tyres to save further spread of this virus.
Divisional Commissioner,  who is also chairman of the Regional Red Cross Society Jammu also  convened a meeting to review activities of the society.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner instructed the concerned Deputy Commissioners to ensure complete implementation of schemes of the Society. He asked the DCs and CEOs to initiate steps for achieving 100% target of collection from schools/colleges and other Government agencies as decided by the State Managing Committee.
The meeting discussed the proposal of shifting of venue of Red Cross Mela to Mini Stadium Parade or Dusshera Ground, Gandhinagar Jammu in view of construction of new flyover at Vikram Chowk. Besides, constitution of organizing committee was also proposed.
Secretary Red Cross Society, Anil Padha, apprised the Divisional Commissioner about the achievement and activities of the society towards the welfare of deserving sections of the society.
Among others Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Deputy Commi-ssioner Kathua, Jatinder Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Deputy Commi-ssioner Doda, Mubarak Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, F C Bhagat, Deputy Commissioner, Samba, R K Varma, Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Director Social Welfare, DIG Jammu, Shakeel Beig, Commandant BSF, Commandant CRPF and other officers of various departments attended the meeting.
